"How come I cannot find these
Bible-based games at my
local Christian store?"
You may find a small few of them some of the
time if you are lucky, but probably not all of them, especially a lot of the
independent Bible-based PC games or RPGS. There are more games out there too
that we are adding as fast as we can find them.
That's why it's important that we help get the Word out
about these Spiritual Artists and their messages of faith in Jesus' name. We have the games you have been looking for!
We're here for you and we are excited about spreading the Good News with our website and you our great visitors
and customers! Please help support all of these great games by telling your
family and friends us or the other game developers you enjoy! By the way, you
can always check out our Yahoo store for a full-list of only Christian games at
www.christianfunstore.com.

"How come some of the Bible-based PC games look different than the Secular-based ones on the market?"
A mainstream, full-blown PC, PS2, XBOX, or GameCube, game for example might cost a minimum of
one million
to
seven million or more dollars for development costs, check out this
article on MSNBC's website
about those games. That's the kind of monetary
costs involved in developing modern
computer/console games with all of the programmers, 3D graphic artists, writers,
marketing, sounds, music etc. Pick up one of your XBOX, PS2, GameCube or PC Game
in your house and take a look at the "Credits" you will see the kind of army it
takes to make a game like that. Also, they take maybe on average up 18 months of work
cycle to complete the game and engine with like 25-50 or more people working on them. We know too, because
we used to work at mainstream game companies years before founding our website.
No place in
the Christian market that we have found can do that yet, because the market is
too small and they do not have that kind of capital laying around. Big mainstream companies may not see
the market as being that valuable, and the
small Christian developers just do not have that kind of cash, however, check out this
article on Forbes about the
Christian Game
Market.
Christian games are mostly developed by small groups of people and
companies much like the early mainstream gaming companies of the 1980's were
when the fledging pc gaming industry was just starting.
If you
have ever heard the term, "cottage industry" that's a good way to describe
Christian gaming. Each one
is usually developed by a handful maybe 1-2 people or more working with almost zero
to minimal budget for artists and programmers, so they do the best they can with
no "giant" coffers, a lot of love and hard work. This is why some of the games have a sort of "home-made"
or not as "flashy big PC game" look and feel. That is why we are trying to help get
the word out on these products, so people know these games exist so they can be
enjoyed.
There are some bigger
companies too, like N-Lightning Software who is currently one of the leaders in
developing 3D faith-based games like
Catechumen
and Ominous
Horizons or Two Guys Software that made
Eternal War:
Shadows of Light, winner of Game of the Year from the Christian Game
Developer Conference and GraceWorks Interactive, recognized by its peers as a
significant contributor to the industry. It also brings the first multiplayer
Christian game to the market or Inspired Idea, with their titles like
One Nation Under
God (Winner
of the 2003 "Game of the Year" second place award by
Christian Game
Developer Conference and GraceWorks Interactive and its peers as a
significant contributor to the industry. It successfully integrates learning
into an entertainment product.)
The fact of the matter is the more
that people help support Christian games the more the developers of those games can
have the resources coming in to create bigger and better games and products to
grow the market. It's a great way to not only help a good cause, but you get a
product in return to enjoy and learn about the Bible in a unique format,
in addition to helping these miscellaneous ministries carry out their missions.

"I have been searching all over for Christian/Bible-based console games for
my XBOX, PS2, GameCube etc. Where are they?"
They don't exist as far as we know, but we'll keep looking. So far,
we cannot find them either. If you find them, let us know at
info@kingscrowngames.com The problem is mainstream game developers usually
find the Christian market is too small, restrictive. To be quite frank, the
market is very small and big companies may feel that the games kids,
teens and adults play would not be as "appealing". Now, most children, teens and adults should understand the
difference between fantasy and reality but it would be nice to have some more products without the graphic violence and
gore aspect, or at least more options for people to "turn-off"
the violence if they choose and etc, and some mainstream games do offer that
option.
By the way, there is a great website called
Christ Centered Game Reviews
which reviews mainstream games from a Christian standpoint in order to help
people make their own judgment on buying those games. In fact, there is an interesting article on Forbes'
website you should check out about the
Christian Game
Market if you have not already done so.

"I want to design PC games and I really don't know where to start. What do I do?"
If you have an idea, great you are ready! If not,
thing to do is look at existing "trends" in the game industry or games you like
to play and work with those concepts to design a cool product that you know will
be popular with your beliefs and artistic appeal. Many of the games we carry are
created by individual programmer/artists who started their own independent game
development companies like Cheyenne the artist and programmer who made
NACAH and
DEREK who
started Virtue Games or Mackenzie and Patrick Ponech who founded Two Guys
Software and makers of
Eternal War:
Shadows of Light, winner of Game of the Year from the Christian Game
Developer Conference and GraceWorks Interactive, recognized by its peers as a
significant contributor to the industry. It also brings the very first
multiplayer network playable Christian game to the market!
There are too many talented other people to mention here right now but we are going to add a special page soon with
profiles of as many of these artisans as possible soon so you can read more
about the developers, their games and mission!
There are so many factors in
developing a professional quality PC game (design, requirements, programming,
artwork, testing, etc, then duplication, publishing, marketing and distributing
it) egad, it can be a monumental task! This is quite a
process even for professionals
and especially true for independent game programmers and artists. Independent
games can take from a few months to few years or more to develop. The best thing do to
is some research to identify what the marketability of some your game idea is
and take it from there. If your idea is for the mainstream/secular public, it's
going to be rough because of the competition and quality factor to compete with
those games, but we believe anyone can blessed when their time is right. You should check out the
Garage
Games website, it is a independent gaming site.
Now, once you have the game idea on paper, and you are sure it's
going to be the next big hit, you need to figure out how to develop it. If you
are a programmer, that's great, you have got a bit of the battle done. If you are
not a programmer, you will need to hire one or find a friend that knows how to
do it and can devote the time. If you have a lot of money to throw around, you
can hire programmers and artists but most likely, you will have to find people
to help you. Once you have your team of programmers and artists you can get
cranking away on the game. There are some 3D game engine packages available for
free too. Check out the
Genesis 3D Engine. Here is a link to a page we found with lots of
game generation
programs and utilities if you do not know a much about programming. If you want to learn to program you can do that too
however that will require a considerable amount of time and energy. You should
learn either C++, Visual Basic, or Macromedia Director. You should
check out the following websites as they may help you on your quest as well,
Christian Coders,
Christian Gaming,
Garage
Games, and
Breakthrough Gaming. Here is a great list of more resources from

"I like the Fantasy and Christian games on your site, but where's all the
Sci-Fi and other games?"
We are trying to add as many games as they come in. We get
lots of requests for many games beyond just the Bible-based ones, and we are
trying to add more products for all of our customers enjoy. As far as the Sci-Fi Bible games, there is
Captain Bible
and the Dome of Darkness which was developed by Stone Engelbrite, a real early pioneer of Christian-based gaming and
former mainstream game programmer as well as founder of
Inspired Idea, who also created
great titles like
One Nation Under

"I'm Christian and I
want to share the fun of a pencil and paper role-playing game with my family or
friends, what is a good Bible-based alternative to some of the Secular or
mainstream RPGS out there?"
For those of you that want a Bible-based Pencil and Paper RPG game,
we have a lot of good choices you may not find anywhere else! Some of the boxed
sets we have like the
Discipleship game
DragonRaid or
the historically and
biblically-based
HolyLands
are quite popular choices.
We are also blessed with carrying some great PDF based RPGS. A PDF is Adobe's
"Portable Document Format" which is basically like a "Word" document, except you
cannot "edit" it. You print it out on paper instead of the game being in a
traditional "perfect-bound book" (like in
DragonRaid
or
HolyLands)
If you are still unclear, here is a sample of a PDF document
Spiritual Warfare Game Shepherd Screen based RPG game. These games, you can
"purchase" from our site, then immediately "download" them, print them out, and
start playing without having to wait for the product to ship. If you do not want
to download them, or have a 56K modem, you can also get them on CD-ROM shipped
to you from us!
If you like fantasy gaming, you should check out Pastor Brent D. Wisdom's game
from his ministry and company, Golgotha Games
Spiritual
Warfare the RPG he also has many "supplement" products to go along with it,
like the
Spiritual Warfare Game Shepherd Screen,
Spiritual
Warfare: Blaze of Glory Wild West Campaign Setting, or the
Spiritual
Warfare: Foes Manual Vol. 1 with all kinds of creatures to add depth and fun
to your game.
If you like angelic Role-Playing Games, you should check out David Baxter's
Archangel
from his company Visionary Games and its supplement,
Spirits of
Archangel or Robert Taylor's game from his company, Crown of Thorns Studios,
Celestius X
These are some good alternatives. We are always on the lookout for more so let
us know if you know of some that we do not at

Testament:
Roleplaying in the Biblical Era
The world of the Bible comes to life
in this campaign setting for the d20 System. Play a wandering Babylonian magus,
a sorcerer in the service of Pharaoh, a Canaanite maker of idols, or a prophet
of the God of Israel. Walk the streets of ancient Jerusalem, stand beside King
David as one of his Mighty Men, smite Philistines, ponder the mysteries of
gargantuan tombs, look upon the dwellings of the gods, and battle demons,
dragons, plagues, and the legendary beasts of Babylon. Testament gives you
everything you need to immerse yourself in the Biblical Era, including a dozen
new classes, over 30 new monsters, over 50 new feats, and over 100 new spells;
rules for barter, curses, piety, and for running mass combat in a mythic age;
and guidelines for leading a small tribe through the hazards of the Bronze and
Iron Age world. Part history, part mythology, Testament is the d20 System
setting that's both instantly familiar and yet unlike any game world you have
ever experienced. Now you can be a part of the greatest story ever told!
The Avatar's
Handbook Avatars are divine servants of the Lords of Good that can summon
celestials to aid them. Powerful avatars can even transform into celestials in
combat, channeling divine energy directly from the Heavenly Host. Written by
Hammer & Helm author and Dragon Magazine editor Jesse Decker, the Avatar's
Handbook introduces this new core class to the d20 System and gives you all the
rules you need to incorporate it into your campaign. In addition to Master Class
trademarks like new feats, spells, and magic items, the Avatar's Handbook
includes full game stats for over 25 new celestials, making it the perfect
complement to Legions of Hell and Armies of the Abyss. Righteous paladins and
clerics now have a powerful new ally in the struggle against evil.

"What
games do you recommend as alternatives to the violent PC action games I may not
want myself or family to play?"
This is a broad one because we have a lot
of popular and fun choices.
By the way, there is a great website called
Christ Centered Game Reviews
which reviews mainstream games from a Christian standpoint in order to help
people make their own judgment on buying those games. In fact, there is an
interesting article on Forbes' website you should check out about the
Christian Game Market if you have not already done so.
Here are some suggestions for 3D First-Person action game alternatives available
on our store for you to check out that do not have the "gore elements":
Eternal War:
Shadows of Light,
takes place in the mind of
John Coronado a desperate teen ready escape his “personal hell”. You are Mike, a
friend sent to help John out of his struggles. Mike will journey into John's
personal hell to defeat the demons that are controlling and ruining his life. If
you prevail, not only do you get to smack down demons, but also lead John into a
God centered life. However if you perish, well... let's hope that does not
happen! Winner of the 2003 "Game of the Year" first place award from the
Christian Game
Developers Conference and GraceWorks Interactive, recognized by its peers as
a significant contributor to the industry. It also brings the first multiplayer
Christian game to the market!
Catechumen
It is Rome, 171 A.D. Beneath the
city, a battle rages. It is not one of flesh, though that does play a minor
role. Rather it is one of spirituality. Your teacher has been captured along
with the Brethren. You must prove your worth in the Colosseum and then take a
stand against the evil that waits below, controlling the minds of those above.
Ominous
Horizons: A Paladin's Calling
combines all the elements of award
winning action adventures with puzzles to solve, unique obstacles to overcome,
quests to accomplish, with the added challenge of making important moral
decisions. First Person Game play is detailed with over 10 enemy creatures from
Black Knights, Ninja Assassins to Demon Dragons and Scorpions each having their
own personality traits which will appeal to all ages.
The War In
Heaven is a 3D action
game that combines fast-paced combat action with uncompromising Christian
values. Designed and produced by two professional game developers who openly
acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, The War In Heaven was created
to provide an exciting alternative to the spiritually dark and blood-drenched
games that are so popular today among teenage and adult gamers. Personal choice
is the defining feature of the game. Set at the time of Lucifer's rebellion
against God, the player takes the role of an angel and decides whether to
obediently serve the Almighty as one of the Divine Host, or to join the
rebellion and fight in the legions of the Fallen.
On The Light-hearted side:
Saints of Virtue Huge levels which add a new
dimension to game play. Solid Christian content well presented and integrated
into the game. Nice soundtrack and a good variety of sounds. Lower system
requirements means people with older machines will run the game well. Finally, a
high quality and challenging CD ROM computer game that provides an alternative
to the gore and the occult found in most other games. A young man enters into
the region of his heart where he battles the influences of darkness represented
as masks of pride, self-righteousness, worldliness, and self-glorification. He
overcomes these forces by applying skill and the appropriate Scriptures.
Finally, he reaches the throne room of his heart only to face one final
challenge. Progress-like content with 3-D game play. Ages 9 through adult. Will
run on as low as 166 mhz, 16 megs of RAM, 8x CD, Windows 95/98!
Rev 7
Check out the wacky new Christian
game for the PC! Just in case you were thinking this was a "normal" game, it is
not! This is a Christian 3-D First Person action game, "Rev 7". Adventure
through the 7 churches mentioned in the first part of Revelation in the Bible!
Use comedic weapons like the "donut gun" and interact with many colorful funny
characters! So forget about dungeons, demons with 17 horns and muscle
bound heroes this time. In this game you must fight your way through 7 churches.
Each church has its own set of bad guys and there are some fun weapons to play
with, they all look like hood ornaments off of cars from the '50s with hot rod
flames on them. Your ammo is junk food like donuts, cookies and cake. The health
is coffee, of course!
Super 3D Noah's
Ark It's been a long
journey. In just a few days, the ark doors will open and Noah, his family and
the animals will be back on dry land. But the animals have become a bit restless
and are out of their cages. Camels, giraffes, monkeys, kangaroos and more are
wandering throughout the corridors of the ark. As Noah, it's your job to regain
order & get the animals to sleep until you leave the ark. Your only tool to
accomplish this is the food you brought aboard the ark. Can it be done? You bet!
But how. . ? Super 3-D Noah was built several years ago using a then
state-of-the-art 3-D game engine (the one used for the original 3-D megahit-
"Doom"). It's a "first person point of view game" ...meaning you see what Noah
sees. Animals have broken out of their cages and are running around in a
labyrinth of Ark hallways and secret passages. Multiple levels. Great fun for
older computers, e.g. DOS, Windows 95, etc.
GodSpeed 3D:
